Building approvals for private sector houses in Queensland rose another 0.5% in January 2015, marking a rising trend which has continued for the past 24 months according to figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics today.
The trend for total number of dwelling units approved in Queensland rose 2.6% in January and has risen for four consecutive months. The recent increase has been spurred on by a spike in apartment approvals.
Demand for housing is predicted to rise in light of projected population growth and continuing housing shortage. Housing affordability remains a key issue, especially for first home buyers.
Workforce demand for skilled construction trades is likely to increase, with several occupations highlighted as prioritiies. This should flow through to an increase in opportunities for apprentices.
